Anu is home in the afternoon when her neighbor Radha stops by for a few minutes.

Story

It is late afternoon, and Anu is at home when the doorbell rings.

It is Radha, her neighbor from upstairs, stopping by for a few minutes on her way back from the market.

Anu opens the door and smiles.

Radha, baa baa, olge baa.

(Radha, come, come inside.)

Before Radha can even sit down, Anu asks:

Chai kudeetheera?

(Will you have some tea?)

Radha laughs:

Swalpa beku, tondare beda.

(I want a little, no need for any trouble.)

Anu heads to the kitchen anyway and calls out:

Halu jaasti beka, kammi beka?

(Do you want more milk or less?)

Radha replies:

Kammi saaku.

(A little is enough.)

Anu checks one more thing before pouring:

Sakkare haakli, alva?

(I'll add sugar, right?)

Radha says:

Ondu spoon saaku.

(One spoon is enough.)

Anu brings out two cups of tea and sits down. Radha takes a sip and says:

Chennagide, thumba dinadinda kudilla.

(It's nice, I haven't had this in a long time.)

They talk for a few minutes about the neighborhood. Anu offers:

Innu swalpa kudi.

(Have a little more.)

Radha shakes her head gently:

Saaku, barthini ee sala.

(Enough, I'll get going now.)

As she leaves, Radha says:

Thumba thanks, chai chennagittu.

(Thanks a lot, the tea was nice.)

Anu smiles and replies:

Innondu sala baa.

(Come again.)
